Drawing Down, recycled motor oil, vitrine, linen and natural light. Dimensions variable, shown here at Spare Change Artist Space 2013

To draw down is to deplete by using or spending, here the act is alluded to as the linen slowly absorbs the oil, darkens and obscures the light and view from the window.

Colony refers to colonizing through theft and gift simultaneously, gestures and approaches are conciously appropriated and offered up to viewer/participants freely. Three key actions make up every iteration of the piece; drawing a circle describing the limit of my reach, filling the circle with soil from my garden (equivalent to my mass or weight), inviting participants to take and transplant that soil elsewhere.
